The Multicultural Centre for Mental Health and Wellbeing (Harmony Place) is a non-government community-based organisation that provides culturally sensitive services to strengthen the mental health and wellbeing of people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Operating since 1995, Harmony Place is the only service of its kind in Queensland, and one of only a few such organisations in Australia and internationally. We work with people over 12 years of age including migrants and their children, refugees, asylum seekers, skilled migrants and their spouses. We operate throughout Queensland, with particular emphasis on the culturally diverse Southeast Queensland regions of Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich and Gold Coast.
We offer a range of early intervention programs and specialist mental health programs that promote emotional and social wellbeing and reduce risk of mental illness. Our staff are committed professionals with qualifications in Social work, Human Services, Psychology and Counselling. Many came to Australia as refugees and migrants or are the children of refugees and migrants. As they share this experience with the people who use our services, our staff are in a unique position to offer peer support as well as professional counselling and supported group activities.
Harmony Place’s mission is to increase the capacity of communities and service providers to better respond to CALD background people with or at risk of mental illness. Harmony Place’s vision is to create an organisation that:
- Is a recognised lead organisation in multicultural mental health.
- Has strong local networks and partnerships with its clients, CALD communities and other organisations including: mental health organisations, community organisations and educational institutions.
- Responds to the mental health needs of all CALD background people.
